Global Warming
Global warming is an issue that has been present for many years. Only recently have Americans been aware of how serious an issue it is. Al Gore is responsible for Americans knowing so much about global warming because of his very popular move, An Inconvenient Truth, which was released in 2006. His movie summarized what humans are doing, and how it's affecting so much more than we know.
Global warming is a direct result of pollution. When greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane are released into the air, the gases trap the heat and light from the sun in the earth's atmosphere, causes the temperature to increase because the heat can get in, but the gases prevent the heat from leaving. This process is called the greenhouse effect. Fossil fuels are burned to create energy, which is the main source of the greenhouse gas emission.
The greenhouse effect in general is not necessarily a bad thing to an extent. Without this effect, the earth would not be a pleasant place to live. When the sun went down it would be freezing, and during the day, the atmosphere would be burning and all living organism would be exposed to all of the light and heat that the sun provides. Therefore, a little gases in the air is not a terrible, but the issue is there is more than a little. As a result of the increase of more and more greenhouse gases getting into the atmosphere, the temperatures get unusually higher causing plants to die because they cannot take the heat. If plants die, then animals lose a source of nutrition, all eventually resulting in hunger for all species. http://www.123rf.com/photo_5270017_vector-illustration-of-global-warming.html (picture above)

How global warming
affects the environment
Since the earth's temperature is now constantly increasing, the ice starts to melt causing sea levels to rise. When the sea levels rise, then water ends up covering previously exposed land causing plants to die, and, again, getting rid of a food source for animals.
The higher temperatures also makes the oceans warmer, which ends up killing the algae in the ocean. Algae is a main food source for many species in the ocean, so that causes many species to die.
Global warming also causes acid rain, which gradually destroys close to everything it touches, which destroys rain forests. Another issue that is affecting the forests is the hotter ground, which starts many forest fires because of how dry the leaves and plants are.
