What are some solutions?
The government is making attempts to reduce the emissions. Congress passed the Clean Air Act in the hopes of limiting the air pollution. This act forces companies to change their products to decrease the air pollution. The pollution in the air is causing many illnesses that cause disabilities, sickness, or even death. Some of the law enforces that people cannot put a certain amount of pollutants into the air. All products that could be hazardous to the environment such as hairspray, have a label on it warming people about what that product can do to the environment. This act also made car companies change some aspects of their cars to make them more fuel efficient because cars pollute a lot into the environment. In some places where there is a lot of pollution like in California, there is smog that forms as a result of car exhaust and pollution from homes and factories mixing in the air and having a chemical reaction.
Greening transportation is also another way to help with global warming and cut back on air pollution. If more people use public transportation, then there will be a reduced amount of carbon emissions into the air from cars. Also, car companies ability to improve their car's efficiency and miles per gallon allows for less pollution.
Alternate energy is also an important step in the conservation of the planet. Today, solar, wind, geothermal, and bioenergy are available around the world. These types of energy are being increasingly more cost effective, and it is giving more jobs to people, but at the same time reducing the pollution being emitted into the air. The same goes with limiting our use of fossil fuels. To achieve this, no more coal-burning power plants should be built and dirty coal plants should shutdown.
There are also little tasks that everyday people can do to reduce their carbon footprint. Here are a few options: 1) People can make sure they buy cars that have food fuel economy. 2) Its unrealistic for people to stop using electricity, but people can get their energy from companies that provide 50-100% renewable energy. 3) People can buy appliances that are from Energy Star, which are more expensive, but are much more energy efficient. 4) People can also do as little as unplug their freezer. 5) People can make a difference by planting a tree, which creates more shade, and also reduces the energy bills and fossil fuel use.
